There have only been two attempts to put a submarine simulator on a console: Silent Service for the NES and 688 Attack Sub for the Sega Genesis, both ports of PC games that did fairly well in their respective eras. That doesn't stop a few developers from trying to break the mold. While there are exceptions, such as racing simulators, most simulation games stick with the PC as the preferred platform. It seems easy to grab that focused attention from a gamer on the PC, but on the console, it becomes more difficult, possibly due to the game console and television being more social experiences in comparison to a personal computer. The attention to detail to ensure that the experience mimics the real one requires as closely as possible requires a dedicated amount of attention. In this case, Ravager shields would become semi-transparent once they're nearly depleted. The common train of thought for gamers is that simulation is a genre that's best left to the PC. I'm personally more in favor of this one, but it might get a bit complicated.

If a weapon goes through the armor, it does full damage, but if it has twice the pen needed to go through, it will overmatch, and do less and less damage. Similar for shields, except it's omnidirectional.Īnd number two would use the same base mechanics, but weapons get a penetration value, and armor a strength value, which decreases with armor HP. To damage the hull, you have to deplete one side's armor, at which point the hull becomes vulnerable from that side. We're still debating between two possible armor systems: One is simpler, ships have 4-sided armor, which protects the hull. Once a unit has come into visual range, you'll know exactly what it is, and if it leaves visual range, but stays in sensor range, you'll probably see a holographic representation of the unit. So, you'll hear units saying "Engaging Track-15832" when you order them to shoot at something. Units will actually call out those tracking IDs when they're attacking things. Units in sensor range only appear as an icon indicating direction and tracking ID. We have a two-layered vision system planned: Units have "sensor", usually RADAR, LIDAR and SONAR range, and visual range. That being said, we're trying to strike a balance between traditional RTS gameplay, and realism. Pathfinding and Avoidance, AI, MP, the armor system we have planned, those things are still missing.
